Our Core Product offering is a range of locally manufactured industrial heat pumps. These heat pumps are available in four different ranges – each range specifically designed and suitable for different applications using components chosen for Southern African conditions and built to last. All EESCO Heat pumps are manufactured by SCM Refrigeration in their ISO compliant factory in Cape Town exclusively for EESCO.
These Heat pumps can be configured in a number of different ways to supply different solutions.
- Standard Split type with Air Evaporator
- High Temperature split with Air Evaporator
- Water Based Evaporator
- Cooling and Heating Industrial Units
Standard Split type with Air Evaporator (AE)
Our Standard range of heat pumps use an Air Evaporator which is used for exchanging heat with the ambient air. These units are very well suited for basement installations, due to the unique “Split configuration.” These units range in capacity from 80kw up to 600kw per system and have various options for the evaporator (Air coil) link here to evap options page configurations. The standard temperature range (R407C refrigerant) are ideal for large scale residential hot water heating which require up to 60°C water temperature.
High Temperature split with Air Evaporator (AEH)
The high temperature range (R134 A refrigerant) are designed for a maximum of 80 deg C water temperature and are suited to Industrial applications, Indirect Heating and District Heating solutions . (TM link Indirect Heating and District Heading to Solutions page). These units range in capacity from 80kw up to 500kw per system and have various options for the evaporator (Air coil) link here to evap options page configurations.
All refrigerants used have a zero ozone depletion rating.

Water Based Evaporator (WE and WE-H)
Both the standard and the high temperature range of heat pumps can be supplied as Water based evaporators – WE Range and WE-H range. The evaporators for these systems are water – based, either the robust “Shell & tube” which is more common on industrial chillers OR space saving BPHE (Brazed Plate Heat Exchangers) These heat exchangers use the heat (Energy) stored in water to evaporate the refrigerant as opposed to the standard AE range that use the ambient air. These units can also be used for sites where only heating is required but noisy fans are an issue. As with all other standard “Heat Pumps” the cooling is not used and needs to be “REJECTED ” This is done by using an air / water heat exchanger (Fan coils) which extract heat from the air and exchange with the water (Expelling cold air into the ambient) The noisy fans can be installed up to 100m away from the plant without any losses to the efficiency of the heat pump. No long refrigerant piping (with consequent high gas charges) all refrigerant components mounted on compact “Rack” which can be located in a closed plant room close to the hot water storage vessels and even in basements. Additional benefits with higher C.O.P’s year round can be realised with external low grade heat sources adding to the stored “Thermal Battery” water. An example would be low grade Solar heat, Solar PVT (Solar voltaic panels with heat reclaim behind the panels) and Heat reclaim Link from nearby plant or machinery etc The advantage of these units is that heat / energy can be stored in the water like a battery and used during colder night time ambient temperatures.
Cooling & Heating Range
These units are ideally suited for industrial and agriculture applications link to this page where both heating and cooling are required. Systems using both heating and cooling obtain C.O.P’s above 6 and can be custom designed to supply primary heating temperatures as high as 80°C and cooling as low as 2°C. These units have been successfully installed for use as “De-humidification” or drying plants (see link to de -humidification /drying )
